OCHS Commitment
At Oktibbeha County Humane Society (OCHS), our purpose is simple yet profound: to serve as a trusted resource for pets and their people across Mississippi. With compassion and dedication, we offer shelter, medical care, adoption services, and critical outreach—all year round.
What We Do
- Shelter & Care
Our dedicated team cares for thousands of animals each year, including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, and more. With increasing intake and longer stays, we rely on public support for essentials like staffing, food, vaccinations, and clean, safe enclosures. - Affordable Spay & Neuter Services
Every year, hundreds of pets are altered through our low‑cost programs, helping prevent future litters and curbing overpopulation. We’re thrilled to share that our permanent Spay & Neuter Clinic opened to the public in January 2025—dramatically expanding our capacity to serve communities across the state. - Second Chance Medical Fund
Through our Second Chance Fund, we finance life-saving surgeries and treatments for animals facing severe injuries or illness—ensuring they have the support they need to heal and thrive. - Transport & Adoption Partnerships
By teaming up with organizations like the ASPCA and shelters in other states, OCHS transports adoptable animals to regions with higher demand. In recent years, we’ve relocated over 1,600 pets to loving homes beyond Mississippi.
Why We Exist
Our mission is clear: to reduce euthanasia rates and animal overpopulation through accessible care, adoption, and spay/neuter services. With local support and regional collaboration, we’re building a healthier future for pets and people alike.
How You Can Help
Our impact depends on community partners like you. Ways to get involved:
- Donate: Funds and supplies help feed, care for, and medically support shelter animals.
- Volunteer: Join us at the shelter or assist on transport days.
- Foster: Open your home and heart to animals waiting for their forever family.
- Share: Amplify our stories and adoptable pets on social media to build awareness.
Every form of support brings us closer to a region where animals are safe, loved, and given every opportunity to thrive.
Looking Ahead
With our permanent Spay & Neuter Clinic and expanding Animal Support Center, OCHS is poised for sustained growth and deeper community impact. Together, we’re advancing toward a future where fewer animals are homeless or suffering—and where every pet has a chance to belong.
Join us in making a lasting difference—for pets, people, and Mississippi’s communities.
